FAQ
What is the difference between a Rectangle Sail Flag and a Feather Flag?
While both are high-impact advertising tools, a Rectangle Sail Flag (often called a square flag) provides a larger, vertical print area that stays fully tensioned. Unlike the curved top of a feather flag, the rectangle design uses a horizontal arm to keep your logo and text perfectly flat and legible even when there is no wind. This makes them the preferred choice for text-heavy designs or car forecourt displays.
Are rectangle sail flags suitable for permanent outdoor use?
Our flags are designed for durability, printed on high-quality 115gsm knitted polyester. While they are built for daily outdoor use, they are classified as “temporary signage.” For maximum lifespan, we recommend taking them down if wind speeds exceed 24mph (Force 6). Following a simple weekly cleaning and maintenance routine can extend the life of your flag from 6 months to over 2 years.
Can I use the same flag pole for different flag shapes?
Generally, no. Rectangle sail flags require a specific pole system with a 90-degree horizontal “top arm” to maintain their shape. Feather and teardrop flags use a curved, flexible fiberglass tip. If you already have a standard pole, you will likely need to upgrade to our Rectangle Pole Kit to ensure the flag fits and displays correctly without sagging.
Do I need planning permission for rectangle advertising flags?
In the UK, most businesses can display “temporary” advertising flags (up to a certain size) under “deemed consent,” meaning you don’t usually need formal planning permission for flags on your own forecourt or premises. However, if the flag is over 4.5 meters high or placed in a conservation area, it is always best to check with your local Essex council to ensure compliance with local signage bylaws.
